Overcoming the anxiety of moving to a new city

A metropolitan city’s view at sunset

Moving to a new city can be both exhausting, nerve-racking and exciting at the same time. The reason why people decide to move to a new city ranges from looking for better opportunities, from their partner/spouse, pursuing education, work or starting over. In today’s post, we'll be focusing on the nerve-racking part of moving to a new city alone.

Most young people often move to a new city in search of better opportunities, and it’s a constant thought about moving to be able to do better, attain certain levels, make more money, access better infrastructures and meet new people. But let’s discuss how nerve-racking it is to move to a new city alone.

After one has decided to move to a new city, the thoughts of being able to actually attain your goals starts to kick in and can sometimes weigh you down, or you begin to feel homesick given the fact that you left your family behind can be nerve-racking. Also, the stress of trying to fit in, getting an apartment, making new friends, getting a good job can be so overwhelming, sometimes making you second guess your reasons for moving.

But I have this to say, most times, before your decision to move has been made, you must have been fed up with your current situation, hence your decision to move. So whenever you feel down and feel like second guessing your options, remember that there’s no going back or backing down, you just have to try and put in the work to achieve whatever goals it is that you set down for yourself, it’s okay to feel down, but don’t give up, give it a try at least, it’s eventually going to pass and you will find your way around.
